Katherine Lock is an artist and retail buyer. Her connections span the Des Moines Art Center, where she served in a variety of roles from 1993 to 2000, and Iowa City, where she graduated from the University of Iowa with honors in painting. Before her return to her hometown of Des Moines in 2023, she lived in New York City for more than 20 years, working at the Guggenheim Museum and Gagosian. Throughout her career she has collaborated with countless artists, curators, designers and studios to illuminate art and exhibitions through engaging shop experiences.
Her highly personal paintings offer combinations of abstracted shapes, color and a personal vocabulary of imagery, layered with gestural textures and forms. Distinctive statements with ambiguous points of origin abound. Two-dimensional shapes as well as linear marks blend pleasantly with harmonious color on canvas and paper.
